Hello, I am Dr. Sonia Chopra D.D.S. – tooth saver extraordinaire, and founder of Ballantyne Endodontics. Before I became an endodontist I used to be a patient.

I was a dental patient to the extreme. As a child, I had to undergo a variety of dental procedures. From root canals to extractions, implants to braces, veneers to veneers – you name it – I’ve sat on a chair to do it. Trust me when I tell you that I know what you are going through!

In my college years I started experiencing an excruciating new toothache. My general dentist and my specialists were unable to identify the source of my pain. After a misdiagnosis by my general dentist, he referred me to an expert for a tooth extraction. My tooth was removed, but the pain was the same. They had actually pulled the wrong tooth. They don’t grow back! It was now I had nine missing teeth!

I had lost hope when I was referred to an endodontist who was compassionate. He not only made the right diagnosis, saved my infected teeth, and relieved my pain, but also educated and explained to me what was going on at every step of my treatment. The experience was so amazing that I decided to become an endodontist.

I received my D.D.S. I earned my D.D.S. Fort Lauderdale, Florida. As I started treating patients, it became clear that my story was not as unique as I had thought. The same problems appeared in all of my patients. I decided to devote my practice to the preservation of natural teeth.

I decided to open Ballantyne Endodontics, a practice in Charlotte, North Carolina. As a Board Certified endodontist, I was able to achieve something that only 15% of the endodontists across the nation can boast. I am especially proud that I was the very first female endodontist to become board-certified in Charlotte. I’m also the author and creator of Tooth Wisdom, a digital guide for patients that will help them become more informed about their oral health.

As an endodontist I am a technician and diagnostician for my patients. My experience as a patient has made me more than just an endodontist. I consider myself to be my patients’ dental advisor and counselor. Like the endodontist that treated me, I take time to understand your symptoms. I explain my treatment recommendations and what to expect so that you are empowered, informed, and calm during your treatment.

I believe that sharing my knowledge will help me serve my patients better. E School is the first online course in endodontics designed specifically for general dentists. In addition to teaching dental residents in my local medical facility for 13 years, I speak regularly at professional events. In 2021, I delivered my first Tedx Talk. I am also the co-founder and director of A night for smiles. This annual gala brings together dentists from Charlotte to support dental health initiatives.

When I am not treating patients and educating dentists on endodontics I enjoy traveling and spending time with my family.
