endodontic specialist

We are pleased to welcome our newest endodontic specialist Dr. Katie Kickertz to the Ballantyne Endodontics team. Charlotte residents are in good hands since Dr. Kickertz comes to us with a wealth of experience and knowledge.

Best of all, she shares the same commitment to patient care and saving teeth as the rest of the team at Ballantyne Endodontics. With her on the team, we can relieve pain and restore wellness for even more members of the Charlotte community.

Educational Foundations

Dr. Kickertz has a strong educational foundation in health and dentistry. She graduated from Purdue University with a B.S. in Health Sciences before completing her D.D.S. degree from Indiana University School of Dentistry.

Endodontists complete additional specialized training in addition to dental school. As a profession, endodontists treat damaged or diseased teeth from the inside out, performing root canals and other specialized procedures that save the natural tooth. When it comes to your mouth, nothing feels as good and fits as well as your healthy natural teeth. Patients find successful endodontic care transformational as they get relief from the pain that led them to the endodontist’s office.

With four years of practicing as a general and family dentist, Dr. Kickertz has extensive knowledge of teeth and oral health. Her passion for promoting wellness led her to specialize in endodontics. She completed her certificate in endodontics and M.S. in 2018 from the University of Minnesota.

She worked as an endodontist in the Minneapolis metropolitan area for two years before she relocated to Maryland and practiced there for another year. Recently, Dr. Kickertz became a Board Certified Endodontist.

Dr. Kickertz may be relatively new to Charlotte, but she comes to us with over ten years of professional experience in general dentistry and endodontics. With this experience comes technical excellence that comes from practice and hard work. She also shares the compassion and patient-centered approach that Ballantyne Endodontics patients value.

She isn’t one to rest on her laurels and is committed to developing as an endodontist.

Personal Qualities

Dr. Kickertz grew up just outside of Chicago in Rockford, Illinois, and also lived in Indiana, Minnesota, and Maryland before moving to Charlotte.

Outside of dentistry, she has a few passions. She enjoys the sport of figure skating. While growing up in the Midwest, she was actually a competitive figure skater! Figure skating is beautiful to watch, but don’t let the effortless-looking grace fool you. The sport requires attention to detail, precision, and persistent practice. Many of those same qualities translate into dentistry and life.

In fact, Dr. Kickertz also volunteers as an official with the U.S. Figure Skating passing on her knowledge to younger skaters.

She currently lives with her husband, Daniel, and her dog Yuri. Spending time with Daniel and Yuri is her favorite thing to do. Her hobbies include cooking, traveling, and exercising at Pure Barre.

As someone with a full life, she sees each patient holistically and as an individual with unique hopes and passions.

Like others on the Ballantyne Endodontics team, connecting with her patients makes this job both rewarding and challenging. The tooth’s root canal system is minuscule and exquisitely complex. Finding the literal root of the pain is challenging. By connecting with the patient and using today’s best practices and endodontic technology, she helps patients find relief from their pain.

Rapid Fire Questions with Dr. Kickertz:

What has led you to specialize in endodontics?

I found myself being challenged as a general dentist doing root canals and wanted to learn more. I enjoy the complexity, variety, and challenges of endodontics.

When did you develop an interest in dentistry (and in specializing)?

My parents are pharmacists, so I knew I wanted to be involved in health care in some way when I went to college. I liked the idea of dentistry because I can help people and constantly learn while still being able to have a work/life balance and consistent hours for work.

What is the most exciting part of practicing as an endodontist?

I love problem-solving and diagnosis, in addition, getting my patients out of pain is so rewarding. Being able to help them get back to feeling normal is a wonderful aspect of this specialty. I enjoy the challenges of difficult cases/teeth!

What is her favorite part of her job?

Problem-solving and seeing results of the work done. I love when I call my patients a few days after a root canal, and they are feeling so much better. It is very rewarding.

What are your impressions of the Charlotte community? What do you enjoy most about it?

I love exploring new areas to hike to and restaurants to try. My husband and I enjoy traveling, and being near the mountains and beach is a plus. I also am happy to be out of the chilly Midwest!

What has it been like working with the team at Ballantyne Endodontics?

Ballantyne Endodontics is one of the best endodontic practices in the entire country and has a stellar reputation. I am so happy that I am a part of this team. Everyone is positive, hard-working, and truly cares about taking care of the patients who chose our practice. The team is organized and strives for excellence, and it is a privilege to work with them.

What are some of your favorite places she traveled to?

I loved the Cinque Terre in Italy, Myanmar, and Iceland. My husband and I went to Colombia in South America this year, and that was also fantastic. We are going to Israel and Thailand next and hope to get to every continent soon!

What do you like about figure skating?

Skating taught me how to become very organized and successful. It requires patience, persistence, and determination and requires you to constantly work to keep your skills up. I was a competitive skater, so I missed school to train and had to still get all my homework and studying completed while training every day. I spent summers away from home for training, and these things helped me to be successful in school and to become an endodontist. Endodontics requires patience and skill, and constantly working to get results.

Dr. Kickertz is currently accepting new patients. Contact Ballantyne Endodontics to schedule your appointment or to ask about how to get a referral from your general dentist.

I still enjoy skating, but from the sidelines now. I am a judge with US Figure Skating and volunteer as an official. I also get on the ice a few times a year, and just gliding on the ice brings me a great sense of joy.
